My Final Resting Place -馬偕的詩

這是馬偕醫師（Dr. George Leslie Mackay）（1844-1901）的詩，好幾年前在一個音樂會中知道的，馬偕醫師曾經向上帝宣誓，希望能讓他留在福爾摩沙：“Once again I promise you, though it means suffering unto death, I wish to spend my life here, in this place I have chosen, to be used of you. 在他的晚年, 他還寫下這首詩：My Final Resting Place

How dear is Formosa to my heart!
On that island the best of my years have been spent.
How dear is Formosa to my heart!
A lifetime of joy is centered here.
I love to look up to its lofty peaks,
down into its yawning chasms,
and away out on its surging seas.
How willing I am to gaze upon these forever!
My heart's ties to Taiwan cannot be severed!
To that island I devote my life.

There I find my joy.
I should like to find a final resting place within sound of its surf,
and under the shade of its waving bamboo.
